Two arrested for Pie City robbery in Pinetown

Metro police officers managed to arrest the men, recovered the cash and unlicensed firearm.

METRO police officers arrested two men aged 28 and 37 in Pinetown for business robbery yesterday, 12 July at about 5pm.

A cashier was performing her duties at the Pie City store in Stanfield Avenue, when she was confronted by two men, one of whom pointed a gun at her. They demanded cash before taking an undisclosed amount of money from the tills.

Lt Col Thulani Zwane, KZN SAPS spokesman, said, “The complainant noticed Metro police in the vicinity of the business premises and alerted them about the robbery. The officers managed to arrest the robbers, recovered the cash and an unlicensed firearm.”

The men were handed over to Pinetown SAPS for further investigation and they are expected to appear in the Pinetown magistrate’s court tomorrow.

The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was used in any other crime in the province.

The KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Major Bhekinkosi Langa, commended the Metro police for their quick response. “We are very pleased with the work displayed by the police. Our detectives will make sure the suspects receive the sentence they deserve,” he said.
