Mother delivers baby on busy highway

A woman went into labour in a taxi in Pinetown this morning.

A TAXI commuter gave birth to a bouncing baby girl, during rush hour and in pouring rain, on the side of the M7 highway this morning.

Netcare 911 ambulance crew were at a service station in St Johns Avenue in Pinetown this morning when a person came running up to them asking for help after a woman had gone into labour in a taxi near the St Johns Bridge.

According to Chris Botha, media liaison officer at Netcare 911, paramedics raced to the scene and assisted the woman with the birth of her baby girl.

“After the birth both baby and mom were treated in the ambulance and then transported to a nearby hospital,” said Botha.
