UPDATE: IEC claims Northdene ballots were accounted for
The IEC provincial spokesman, Thabani Ngwira, said there was no criminal investigation regarding the ballot papers that were found at the Girl Guides Hall on Friday, 5 August.

THE Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has reported that there is no criminal investigation regarding the ballot papers and boxes which were found at the Girl Guides Hall in Northdene on Friday, 5 August.
According to Thabani Ngwira, IEC provincial spokesman, the ballot papers were already accounted for.
“The result slip was completed and signed off by party agents that evening. Some of the material from the voting process was left behind at the Girl Guides Hall (voting station) but the results slip was submitted to the results capturing centre,” said Ngwira.
Ward 63 councillor, Chris Van Den Berg, said on his facebook page that as far as he can ascertain, all votes and sensitive documentation were taken after the voting.
“The IEC and SAPS were on scene to investigate and remove the balance of the items that the IEC area manager should have removed after the voting. All the votes are accounted for in the offical results announced by the IEC,” said Van Den Berg.
He thanked all who assisted and had a concern regarding the incident. He also said he would investigate further as to how this happened to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.
