OVERGROWN bush and an illegal dumpsite in Pine Street, Ashley and Mariannridge Road has the residents worried, as both sites are also used by vagrants.
Ashley resident, John Davison, said this problem had been ongoing for years.
“The Public works department have tried to clear the bush in Pine Street of alien invasive plants but it is only done once a year,” he said.
Davidson said the illegal dumpers have made a driveway to the land and they dump all kinds of garbage, from garden refuse to motor parts.
“I truly believe that some of the goods that are dumped here can be useful to some people.
“The KZN Roads authority and its verge cleaning and clearance teams do such a fine job at keeping their road servitude area along Richmond Road tidy and free of litter but beyond the government road verge ends, what a terrible disgrace and security threat at the adjacent municipal land,” he said.
Davidson said he had managed to get bush cleared around an electrical fuse box with a PVC lid, but inadequately, and he is worried that the neighbourhood Telkom lines and overhead poles are destined to be burned down as the hot, dry season advances.
Lucky Mshengu, DA PR Councillor for Ward 16 and 14, has promised to visit the areas and try to assist the residents’ concerns
