Protests lead to early Spring break for UKZN students

All lectures will resume on Tuesday, 20 September.

THE ongoing student protests at UKZN campuses have led to the campus management’s decision to bring the September recess period forward.

Twenty-two students appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court facing charges of public violence and not complying with a court order after they torched six cars and a building on the Westville campus recently. They each received bail of R200.

UKZN’s vice-chancellor and principal, Dr Albert van Jaarsveld, said, “The university will be closed from Wednesday, 7 September until Monday, 19 September.”

All lectures will resume on Tuesday, 20 September.
