Neighbourhood watch patroller shot at by robbers

A patroller was shot at when he tried to assist two people who were being mugged at the M13 footbridge.

AN Ashley Residents Neighbourhood Watch patroller was shot at when he tried to assist two people who were being mugged at the M13 footbridge last night (30 September).

According to ARNW controller, Joe Ribeiro, the patroller noticed three suspicious men loitering around Lilyvale Road and the M13 footbridge.

“The men then walked over the bridge towards Pinetown. An Ashley resident, along with a friend,   were crossing the bridge when they were approached by the men who  mugged them.

Ribeiro said the patroller ran over to assist and was shot at. He then returned fire.

“Two windows of a patroller’s car were shot and a bullet struck a headrest. The tyre of another patroller’s vehicle was also hit. No one was injured during this incident.”

Ribeiro thanked everyone who assisted and said that from the donations made by the residents, ARNW will repair the damages to the patrollers’ vehicles.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the police and ER24 for their quick response.

“I urge residents to be vigilant, look out for anything suspicious and report it immediately,” she added.
