Bank reaches out to Burlington Crèche
Project facilitator, Deshnee Pillay, was motivated to help the crèche after paying them a visit.
AFRICAN Bank Malvern closed its branch on Wednesday, 12 October to visit the Burlington Crèche and donate R36 000 worth of goods.
“The donation was part of our community service initiative and was our way of contributing to making the learning environment a decent place. We absolutely enjoyed our visit, the children were a lively and disciplined bunch,” said project facilitator, Deshnee Pillay.
She said she became motivated to help the crèche after a visit when she noticed that the staff did their best with the little they had and as a result, the crèche was one of 19 organisations that received a donation from the bank. The donated items included stationery supplies, floor mats, a chalkboard, stove and other necessities.
Branch manager, Rowen Reddy, said they are committed to lending the community a helping hand. “African Bank Malvern is continuously involved in the upliftment of the community. We would like to thank all those who were involved in this project, the Malvern Metro Police and the furniture company which delivered the goods and our staff, especially Deshnee who spearheaded this entire project,” he said.
Kwanda Mbutho, Burlington Crèche chairman, said the donation they received will have a great impact on the children. “Words cannot express our gratitude. We live in a poor community and the donated items were things we needed most, but could not afford. Our responsibility is to ensure that the children are safe while they are away from their parents and now, their stay will be more comfortable,” said Mbutho.
