Residents expressed their concerns about the increase in crime and said they believe Westville is under siege. According to residents, their properties have lost a huge value and drastic measures need to be taken to reduce the escalating crime rate.
This is what residents had to say:
Bee Zweni – I have been a Westville resident for almost 25 years. In the past there have been incidents of break-ins, but what is happening now is out of control. The crime is getting worse each and every day and we are scared as it is getting very violent and innocent people are dying.
Max Gregory – I am very concerned about the security in this area. I really believe that everyone needs to play their part part so that we can find a solution and live in peace.
Provin Devnarain – The crime is quite bad at the moment. We are really concerned and that is the reason we are all gathered here tonight.
Paolo Gouveia – I did not expect such a huge turnout. It is a good thing that the community has come together to find solutions to end the crime in this area.
Driver of the Special Rates Area (SRA) committee, Guy Boardman explains the purpose of the meeting:
At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
