Harry Pet Rescue will host a microchipping day with a mini market.

IT has become important to microchip your pet these days, as you never knowif and when your pet may wander off and get lost or be stolen.

Harry Pet Rescue will host a microchipping day on Sunday, 29 January in Padfield Park municipal park.

The non-profit organisation has dedicated people who spend their free time trying to locate lost animals, re-home them, take them to vets, and find forever homes.

“There has been awareness created both on television and the press about the scourge of organised dog fighting and statistics show that it is on the increase.

“I recently read an article by Durban’s SPCA General Manager, Caroline Smith, who said that because dog fighting is illegal, it takes place under a blanket of secrecy with perpetrators going to extreme lengths to ensure they are not discovered,” said Jill Murraybrown, member of Harry’s Pet Rescue team.

Jill said Caroline pointed out that owners of preferred dog fighting breeds – such as pit bulls, bull terriers, staffies and boerbulls – are encouraged to be especially vigilant.

“A microchipped animal can be reunited with its family immediately. However safe one might feel about one’s enclosed property, there are many ingenious ways dogs are lured,” she said.

The day will also include a fund-raising mini-market with stalls. People are invited to bring along a tin of pet food or packets of pet biscuits to be donated to Harry’s Pet Rescue and other organisations depending on amount donated.

Harry was the first dog rescued by Harry’s Pet Rescue.

Make this a family outing with your Furballs. Remember to have your dogs on a leash and cats in baskets.
