WATCH: Community revs up support against crime
Dozens of emergency services and neighbourhood watch members gathered in unison against the wave of crime that has hit Durban.

IN a move to demonstrate unity, community leaders gathered en masse to organise an anti-crime protest drive through Westville and Pinetown this morning.
Representatives from across the emergency services sector gathered outside Westville Girls’ High School for the motorcade protest.
“We are taking back what is ours,” said community activist, Andreas Mathios.
“The Durban community is a community of Samaritans. This (protest) is to show support for what our security services are doing.”
Mike Myers of the Westville CPF said the community was fully behind law enforcement and would continue to support the work that is done by emergency services, which face the biggest threats when responding to incidents.
Enforce’s community project manager, Nikki Mohlmann, said, “The only way we are going to combat crime is by forming a unified front among emergency services, neighbourhood watches and security companies.
“We want something to be done by province. The crime mustn’t be displaced, it needs to be dealt with. The criminals need to be arrested,” said Mohlmann.
Mohlmann said that security companies had been hit hard by the spate of crime as their guards had become targets.
“They are being targeted for their ammunition. Each one of the security companies has lost a valued member and colleague,” said a impassioned Mohlmann.
