TAKE NOTE: Petrol price to increase

Petrol and diesel will increase at midnight on Tuesday, 31 January.

FOR many Highway residents pay-day could not come soon enough, but commuters will have to tighten their budgets a little more in February due to a petrol price increase.

In a statement released by the Department of Energy, the price of petrol will increase by 29 cents per litre and diesel will increase by 21 cents per litre on Wednesday, 1 February.

The statement read: “The Rand appreciated against the US Dollar during the period under review, on average, when compared to the previous period.”

“The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 29 December 2016 to 26 January 2017 was 13.5831 compared to 13.8687 during the previous period. This led to decreases in the contribution to the Basic Fuels Price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 12.87 c/l, 12.28 c/l and 12.24 c/l respectively.”
