WATCH: Taxi bursts into flames in Pinetown

Miraculously all the passengers were able to escape before the taxi was engulfed in flames.

A TAXI burst into flames on Crompton Street near Umdoni Centre in Pinetown just after 6am today.

Rescue Care paramedics found the burning taxi against one of the buildings

“Fortunately all of the occupants managed to escape before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The Fire Department arrived shortly afterwards and extinguished the fire. Advanced Life Support Paramedics were on standby in case anyone had sustained injuries while fighting the fire,” said Rescue Care paramedics operations director, Garrith Jamieson.

It was thought that the taxi had been involved in a collision, said Jamieson, however upon arrival paramedics learnt that the taxi had ‘somehow ‘caught alight and rolled down the hill and into a building.

Metro Police had to close Crompton Street  between Windsor Lane and Umdoni Road while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.

Jamieson reports from the scene.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
