Man struck by train in Mariannhill

Netcare 911 said this was the third train related incident reported in three days.

A MAN was hit by a train on Saturday afternoon near a residential area off Station Road in Mariannhill

The incident happened near a pathway that is used by pedestrians to cross the train tracks.

“Paramedics found the man alive but with several serious injuries. He was attended to by an advanced life support paramedic and analgesic medication was administered to reduce his pain before he could be moved,” said Nick Dollman from Netcare 911.

Dollman said this was the third train related incident that Netcare 911 has attended to in three days, starting in Randfontein on Thursday when a car and a train collided.

“The second one was reported in Pretoria on Thursday night where a pedestrian was also struck by a train.”

He added that three incidents in a short space of time is unusual.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
