As head girl for 2017, Jade McGee has demonstrated strong leadership and academic capabilities.
The combination of these skills and her keen photographic eye that she has so generously shared in service to the school, has led to Jade’s selection as the Waterfall College’s SPAR Star of the Month.
She started on her photography journey when she was 14 years old. She said, “I have always had an interest in taking photos and now that interest has grown into a passion. My favourite photo has to be the one I took when I started sports photography. It was an action photo of a wave-skier catching his perfect wave.”
Jade is also passionate about scuba diving. She enjoys the opportunities this provides for underwater photography.
Her parents noted some years ago that she had an eye for photography and her proud mom, Tracey, said the school provided Jade with the opportunity to further develop and enhance her love of photography and many of her photographs have been published in local print and have appeared on social media.
The school’s marketer, Keryn House, said, “Jade has given selflessly of her time and her remarkable talent, always willing to help with photography at our school events, such as the recent sports awards evening. In this manner, she has contributed significantly in terms of service to the school. I am privileged to have watched her grow in confidence and skill as a photographer at pressurised events like awards evenings, where lighting, timing and the organising of people into groups are essential components of successful photography. I do hope she continues to develop this wonderful gift.”
On her leadership experience, Jade described being chosen as head girl as an honour.
“I have learnt that through hard work, my dreams can definitely come true.”
Jade offered a bit of advice for her fellow matrics in the class of 2017, “Never give up, because through perseverance and patience, you can conquer anything.”
She was accepted into a bachelor in political studies (BPolSci in political studies) at the University of Pretoria and plans to pursue a photography course in parallel.
