Strike action could delay traffic on airport routes
Leave early to make allowance for possible traffic congestion on routes to the airport.
THE Airports Company South Africa has been monitoring reports about the possible nationwide strike action for today, Wednesday 27 September.
Given the statements issued by the South African Police Service and metro authorities, as well as uncertainties involved in anticipating the impact of strike action, the company has advised passengers to allow for delays and longer travelling time to the airport.
While Airports Company South Africa is not aware of specific strike action focused on airports, it is possible that there could be traffic delays that would affect airport access routes.
The managements of airports are staying in close contact with the metro authorities and the South African Police Service in order to identify as early as possible any potential delays.
Strike action of this nature is not entirely predictable and passengers scheduled to depart from airports on Wednesday should make every effort to give themselves more time to get to the airport.
Airport managements also advise passengers travelling on Wednesday to follow local news updates on the strike action. While strike action could affect various forms of transport, the company advises passengers heading for airport to use public transport wherever feasible.
Cosatu members are marching against corruption and state capture.
The march in Durban begins at the King Dinuzulu Park to the city hall.
Cosatu affiliates such as Samwu – municpal workers union – and Sadtu – the teachers union are also expected to join the march.
