WATCH: Nick Evans removes snake from car engine in Pinetown

A Mozambique Spitting Cobra was found inside a Honda Jazz engine compartment in Pinetown.

HIGHWAY snake catcher, Nick Evans, with help from friends, managed to remove a Mozambique Spitting Cobra out of an engine, yesterday.

The snake had somehow lodged itself inside the engine compartment of a small family car in Pinetown.

“I spent two and a half hours trying to get the snake out of the engine compartment of a Honda Jazz. Eventually, I had to give up, as he had vanished. I got home at 8pm, and my phone rings- the cobra had shown himself again.

“I rushed off with my girlfriend, Joelle and with the help of friends, we managed to catch him pretty quickly,” said Evans.

Evans thanked everyone who helped him and the Monkey Helpline who passed on his number.

Blue Security Community TV media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios shared tips on what to do when you spot a snake:

  1. Avoid teasing the snake
  2. Keep your eyes on it while calling for help
  3. Communicate your GPS location through your WhatsApp location sharing feature
  4. Do not try to handle the snake
  5. If you do get bitten notify Blue Security operators on 031-717-5000 who will dispatch medical help to your location.
