Cheleigh’s shoe size goes up thanks to big donation

The 490 pairs of new shoes were handed to Cheleigh at an assembly and a further 20 pairs were dropped off at the school, totalling 510 pairs of shoes for children and adults.

PARKSIDE Primary School’s Cheleigh Mac Donald’s shoe collection empire is growing with the help of generous donations.

Her most recent donation came from SAFLEC (South African Footwear and Leather Export Council) after the company read the story about the determined, young philanthropist in the Queensburgh News.

The 490 pairs of new shoes were handed to Cheleigh at an assembly and a further 20 pairs were dropped off at the school, totalling 510 pairs of shoes for children and adults.

“We have a healthy footwear industry and thought why not give her some brand new shoes towards her charity drive, since she has second hand shoes. Members of SAFLEC that assisted with the sponsor are Angel Footwear, Caprini Footwear, BBF Safety Group, Nikkita Footwear and Foot Style,” said SAFLEC’s Prenisha Dukhipersad.

SAFLEC, represented by Louise Pelser and Prenisha as well as representatives from Nikkita Footwear attended the assembly for the handover and have, over and above the donation, offered Cheleigh, two friends and a teacher of her choice, a tour of their manufacturing plant to see the process of how a shoe is made.

The nine year old had collected more than 600 pairs of shoes already with the help of her parents, close family, friends and even strangers and this donation will almost double her collection.
