Alert off-duty constable arrests robber in Pinetown

Cst Madlopha was on his way home when he saw the suspect grabbing a man by the neck and snatching his cellphone.

AN off duty police officer from Pinetown SAPS arrested a 19-year-old suspect for common robbery in Crompton Street yesterday, (Thursday, 8 February).

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said, Cst Madlopha was driving along Crompton Street while on his way home after his shift when he saw the suspect grabbing another man by the neck and snatching his cell phone.

“His police instinct kicked in instantly and he chased the suspect. With the help of the victim, the officer caught up with the suspect and arrested him. The victim’s cellphone was recovered,” said Manqele.

The suspect was charged with common robbery and will appear in court soon.
