THE swift response from Bellair SAPS, after receiving information from the community of Coedemore Informal Settlement about illegal activity, led to the arrest of one suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

The officers received information that the suspect had relocated to the Coedemore Informal Settlement from the Heathcote Informal Settlement.
Residents said the suspect had been discharging the firearm during the course of the night.
“He subsequently threatened to kill his father and stepmother. A full description of the suspect was given and he was seen leaving the informal settlement on foot when he was apprehended by the officers.
“The suspect pointed out the location of the firearm which was hidden under rubble on a pavement. The firearm’s serial number was filed off and the firearm was re-sprayed,” said SAPS.
