History of isiShweshwe highlighted in book

The in-depth and interesting read can be purchased at the Woza-Moya store at the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust.

THE Woza-Moya craft shop at the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust was crammed to capacity as people gathered for the history of isiShweshwe by author and art historian, Juliette Leeb-du Toit.

In her lecture, Juliette traced the origins of this iconic cloth along its deep and complex history in South Africa dating back to the 1700s.

This included its early usage and cultural adaptations and its emerging regional, cultural and aesthetic significance.

For those who could not attend the event, the Woza-Moya craft shop in Hillcrest now stocks this wonderful book which has been meticulously researched over many years and includes a wealth of illustrations.
