Double victory for Highbury sport star

Ivan Lockem holds the prestigious distinction of representing his province in a major summer and winter sport.

HIGHBURY Preparatory School Grade 7 learner, Ivan Lockem, recently attained a double victory when he was selected for the Sharks Primary Schools’ U13 rugby team as he is already a member of the KZN Schools’ U13 cricket team.

Ivan now holds the prestigious distinction of representing his province in a major summer and winter sport.

It is rare to play at such a high level in both sports and Highbury’s Director of Sport, Rory Wood, said he has been the director of sport at Highbury for a long time and this is the first time he is aware of a Highbury boy representing KZN at U13A level in both cricket and rugby.

“We are extremely proud of Ivan. His sportsmanship both on and off the field is exemplary and we will follow his sporting progress closely as he proceeds to Hilton College next year,” said Wood.

The Sharks Primary School Capping Ceremony was held on Monday, 11 June at Kings Park.

Ivan will now play in the National Primary Schools’ Craven Week in Kimberly in July.
