Karateka kick it up at champs
The students from the Westville Karate Club, which trains at the Westville Virgin Active, raked in a slew of awards at a recent comp.
THE Westville Karate Club recently participated in the IFFSKSA 25th all style friendship championships and raked in numerous awards.
The competition, hosted at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Old Mutual sports hall, saw Vitara Ayer (2nd kumite), Ziphiwo Hlongwa (3rd kata), Lunathi Hlongwa (2nd kata), Ronaldo Moodaly (2nd kumite), Maxim Barnes (2nd kata/3rd kumite), Yasthika Narainsamy (1st kata/1st kumite), Imraan cassimjee (1st kata/1st kumite), Shaelin Perumal (1st kumite), Ashley Thomas (2nd kata/2nd kumite), Michael Schwartz (1st kata/1st kumite), Tezlin Singh (3rd kumite), Leah govender (1st kata/1st kumite) take part.

Sensei Brian Govender said, “I am extremely proud of every student that competed, irrespective of the result. All of them participated with the attitude of a champion. Many thanks to my assistant instructors who do a fantastic job teaching and motivating them.”
