Motala Height’s Serisha (12) aims to walk in Madiba’s footsteps

Born on the same day as Mandela, a 12-year-old from Motala Heights has a vision to run the country one day and make it a better place for everyone.

A TWELVE-YEAR-OLD Motala Heights girl will always treasure her birthday as she shares it with world icon, Nelson Mandela.

Yesterday, Serisha Leah Naidoo spent her special day with her family and elderly people at Motala Heights Library.

For Serisha, valuing the older generation is very close to her heart and she believes they should be treated with the utmost care. “The older generation have a lot to share and can teach us important life values.

Responding to how she felt about sharing her birthday with Tata Madiba, she said, “I want to thank my parents for bringing me into this world on a day as special as this.

“I get to celebrate my birthday with an icon who fought for equality for all humans. Nelson Mandela is my role model and one day I would like to be able to walk in his footsteps and rule South Africa to make it a better place for all,” she said.

Serisha’s mom, Priya had a cake made with Serisha’s and Madiba’s faces to celebrate the special day.
