Tips for homeowners
FOLLOWING an increase in housebreakings and house robberies in the Hillcrest area, police have urged the public to be more vigilant and put equipment and items like bicycles away so that they are not visible in yards.
“If doors and security gates are left open, it allows easy access.Another tip is to try and keep the entrance to the property and fence clear of shrubs and bushes allowing more visibility and more lighting. Houses should also be clearly numbered; it’s difficult to attend to crime scenes or respond to them if houses do not have numbers clearly marked,” Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Capt Linzi Smith.
