GRADE 11 St Mary’s DSG, Kloof learner, Tayla Kavanagh, is a talented athlete and was chosen as the high school’s SPAR Star of the Month.
Tayla successfully won every one of the seven inter-school cross-country fixtures over the course of the season and recently won the Forest Hills 10km race in a time of 37 minutes and 24 seconds. Not only is this time an astonishing achievement, but Tayla ran as a junior in an open race.
Tayla will compete in the KZN Champs in Newcastle during the first week of August where she aims to be selected as a part of the KZN Athletics Team. Should she be picked, she will then run in the SA National Cross Country Championships in Port Elizabeth in September. She is a dedicated runner and runs everyday and trains with Jane Brown twice a week.
Tayla dreams of representing South Africa in the Olympics one day as a road runner.
