Westville takes anti-crime campaign to the streets
The Westville anti-crime convoy was very well run and accepted by the public.
THE positive outcome and the great response from the Westville community at the weekend convoy, which included different authorities and stakeholders, has prompted SAPS and Metro to a request for these convoys to be held on regular basis.
The aim of the initiative was to create awareness on the partnership between stakeholders and authorities and also show off the partnership between these members. The convoy was joined by SAPS, Metro Police, Westville CPF, local security companies, neighbourhood watch members and the local community.
The convoy started at The Pavilion and proceeded up St James and left onto Link Rd, past Jimmy Bellows to Westville Road, pausing and regrouping at the Post Office, then onto Blair Athol to the M19, returning along Blair Athol to go up Jan Hofmeyr to the M13, down to Westwood, turning and heading West along Essex Terrace, onto the M13 continuing West and off at Dawncliffe, back along Ferndale and Burlington to Westville Road Post Office.

“From the feedback received thus far we do believe that we accomplished what we set out to achieve. It was very well run and accepted by all the local road users and the public,” said Westville CPF secretary, Wayne Le Roux.
He said the idea is to have these type of convoys on a regular basis. SAPS and Metro police have also requested further and regular convoys to take place.
Crime in the Westville area became an issue for a while with murders and robberies on the rise, but Le Roux said crime in general has been on the decline the past few months.
“This is mostly attributed to the excellent work of our SAPS and Metro Police members as well as the excellent partnership with the volunteers within the neighbourhood watch programme. Westville CPF and Neighbourhood Watch Members have forged a strong bond with our authorities.”
He added the CPF and NHWs would like to thank the communities for their participation, the road users for their forbearance, and the policing authorities and companies involved for their efforts and support.
