Diamond anniversary for couple

Elizabeth and Godfrey Le Roux celebrate 60 years of marriage.

CELEBRATING 60 years of marriage is truly a blessing for Kloof couple, Elizabeth and Godfrey Le Roux.

“We have been very lucky, although my husband has been sick in the past years, that we have mostly had fairly good health,” said Elizabeth.

The couple was introduced through friends and dated for six years before they got married at the Durban Baptist Church on 1 September 1958.

“We were very young at that time and we worked very hard towards getting married and then providing a good life for our children,” said Godfrey.

Elizabeth said Godfrey’s pleasantness was what attracted her to him. “He was easy going; he use to be a cyclist and has won quite a few cups.”

For Elizabeth being on the front page of a Sunday newspaper as the Bride of the Week is still a very special memory and a highlight of her beautiful wedding day.

“Celebrating our 60th anniversary is just amazing. Keeping healthy, I believe staying away from cigarettes and not drinking excessively is what has kept us alive for all these years,” said Elizabeth.

Godfrey’s advice is for couples to stay faithful to their chosen mate and, “try and improve your living conditions and do not misuse your money and love your partner for who they are and not what they have.”

The couple said they have enjoyed their trips overseas as they have visited many other countries with their children who have been a blessing to them and are very grateful for having them in their lives.
