KZN Matric 2018: Education opens access to opportunity
The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal wishes the province’s matric learners all the very best as they begin writing their final exams this week.
These exams are the culmination of 12 years of schooling and we thank those educators who have worked selflessly to prepare learners. In turn, we urge learners to give of their very best.
A good education is critical in terms of access to opportunity and breaking the cycle of poverty that exists within so many communities. In the words of the father of our nation, Nelson Mandela, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which one can use to change the world.’

The DA acknowledges those learners in particular who are fighting against considerable odds, such as heading up families themselves and even studying by candle light. We also acknowledge that many learners had to study at schools without a conducive environment.
We urge them to remain focused during the exam period so that they may improve their own and their families’ circumstances.
The Democratic Alliance will continue to fight for all learners to have a conducive and safe schooling environment, educational opportunities and a successful matric exam period.
IFP: All the Best to Matric 2018
The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu Natal takes this opportunity to wish 2018 Grade 12s good luck in their exams that officially commenced yesterday. The party would like to remind the learners that this is a crucial time to give their best shot as their performance will have an impact on their future career choices.
The IFP acknowledges the dedication of all teachers who have managed to overcome all circumstances that could have prevented them from educating learners. We hope that their efforts will yield positive results by further improving on last year’s pass rate of 72.8%. KwaZulu Natal had the country’s largest improvement in matric results as the pass rate increased from 66.4% in 2016 to 72.8% in 2017. We hope they will do even better than the 2017 class.
We urge the communities and parents to offer all necessary support and words of encouragement to the learners as children are mirrors, they reflect back to us all we say and do. Principles of making success a habit will guarantee the best results for all.
Goodluck. Make us proud.
