Waterfall College awards its stars

Waterfall College recently named its Dux and runner up to Dux at its annual speech day ceremony.

WATERFALL College bid a fond farewell to the Class of 2018 and celebrated an iconic year in the history of the school at its annual speech day last week.

During the ceremony, the school’s principal, Jeanette van der Merwe, reflected on the power of prayer and extraordinary human effort that laid the foundation for Waterfall College’s growing success.

“Our teachers, our learners, our parents and our administrators have been warriors for our school – working tirelessly and against all odds to establish and maintain its progress.”

Guest speaker, Kevin Johnson, a life coach and founder of Ride for Education, implored the learners to define success in their own terms and to embrace failure as a vital part of their journey. “It is in those dark, lonely moments that you often learn the most about yourself. Embrace that opportunity,” he said.

Head boy, Dylan Cooper, said in his valedictory speech, “Thank you to our teachers for putting in far more effort than you needed to, to get the best out of us. You have all had an impact on the people we are today.”

Dylan was named Dux for 2018 and Caitlin Smith as Proxime Accessit. Certificates and trophies were awarded to the top three students in each grade, as well as to those who achieved in various subjects and showed great dedication to their academic development.
