Westville couple toasts to 50 years
Graham and Lorraine Campbell is set to celebrate their golden anniversary.
SETTLING in Woodlands with his family, after staying in various places, was the best thing for Graham Campbell who found the love of his life there.
Graham and Lorraine, who will be celebrating their 50th anniversary on 23 November, lived across from each other and said they just ‘clicked’ and their love developed over the years.
Being the only daughter, Lorraine’s father was very protective of her and the couple dated secretly as they were still very young.
“I was only 15 and Graham was 16, and I was only allowed to date him officially after my 21st birthday as my parents allowed me to invite him to my party,” said Lorraine.
The couple got engaged a few months after Lorraine’s 21st and got married the following year (1968), at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodlands.

The Campbells have been living in Westville for almost 45 years and said their home is very special to them, as they designed it shortly after they got married.
“We are both homemakers; we knew what we had in mind. I am DIY kind of man and wife enjoys cooking and baking. Our house is very special to us, although we have now settled at the cottage which use to belong to Lorraine’s parents with one of our sons using the main house,” said Graham.

After being unable to have children for nine years after getting married, the couple regard their two sons, Scott and Ross, as a blessing.
“We are a very close family and have had many happy years together,” said Graham.
Lorraine advised young people to be good friends with their partners before getting married, “Respect for one another, getting over your disputes and communication is also important for married couples.”
The Campbells have four grandchildren and their hobbies include caravaning (which they regard as their second home), “we even decorated it during the Christmas season.”
