Last chance to be added on the voter’s roll

The IEC said voter registration for South African citizens living abroad will take place at all South African foreign missions from 1 to 4 February 2019.

GOVERNMENT has appealed to all citizens to make sure they register to vote for next year’s election. The Independent Electoral Commission(IEC) has announced that the final registration date is the weekend of 26-27 January 2019.

Government said, “Cabinet appeals to all those who applied for their smart IDs to collect their documents at their respective Department of Home Affairs branches.”

The IEC added that voter registration for South African citizens living abroad will take place at all South African foreign missions from 1 to 4 February 2019.

Registration will take place during office hours at South Africa’s 120 foreign missions, including high commissions, embassies and consulates worldwide,” said the IEC.

All South African citizens aged 16 and older and in possession of an official South African identity document (either a blue barcoded ID book, a smartcard ID or a temporary ID certificate) are eligible to register as voters.
