Trust makes a ‘wheel’ difference to Pinetown’s Open Door Crisis Care Centre

The Open Door Crisis Care Centre, based in Pinetown, were donated a new vehicle to continue its important work across KZN.

SIBAYA Community Trust heeded The Open Door Crisis Care Centre’s call for help and sponsored a new vehicle to enable the non-profit organisation continue its invaluable service in the community.

The centre’s existing vehicles are between 10 to 14 years old, one of which has navigated more than 200 000 kilometres and is no longer reliable.

“Sibaya Community Trust is privileged to be in a position to answer Open Door’s desperate call for a vehicle. Reliable transport is essential for reaching the people that the centre supports in communities across KwaZulu-Natal.

“We know that a new vehicle is indeed a wish list item for non-profit organisations and that, within limited budgets, money must be prioritised for the essentials. We are pleased to have taken some of the burden off of their shoulders. We wish them many happy and safe miles with their new wheels,” said Sibaya chairman, Vivian Reddy.

Open Door was established in 1997 by Thora Mansfield at the request of the South African Police Services to help address the high volumes of crime against women and children.

From small beginnings, the organisation is recognised nationally and internationally as it continues to address serious social issues through counselling, psycho-social services and support groups.

The Open Door has won 22 awards for its work in changing lives of those who are hurting and suffering as a result of crimes of violence and that affect them and has an accredited shelter for abused women and their children and has recently been accredited to open one of the first men’s shelter in the country.

“Our success, however, is not measured in the awards or the statistics but by the number of lives that have been healed and restored. This has not been without challenges, the most pressing challenge being lack of suitable transport.

“We thank the Sibaya Community Trust for its generous sponsorship of a vehicle to ensure that our vision to reach thousands of men, women and children every year is a reality,” said the Open Door’s founder and director, Thora Mansfield.
