GELOFTE Skool learner Daniel du Plessies has been fishing for as long as he can remember and even has Protea colours for the sport, but what shines for the Grade Nine learner besides fishing is his kind and helpful nature.

On Monday, Ramcat Fishing presented Daniel with a certificate of appreciation for his selflessness and willingness to help others.

Ramcat Fishing is an NPO and community initiative that hosts specialised fun fishing days and adaptive events for disabled anglers, particularly wheelchair users and people with physical disabilities.

Raven Benny, who presented Daniel with the certificate, said Daniel had been helping the organisation since he was very young.

“He volunteers his time and does it with a smile. He never gets tired or complains. We truly appreciate him,” said Benny.

Daniel said his caring nature was inspired by his grandfather, whose wish was to see more people lending a helping hand to others.

He added that one of the highlights of his fishing career was travelling to Cape Town to compete at nationals. “It was a great experience and I did well. I love fishing; it is peaceful,” he said.
