Hillary family held at gunpoint during armed robbery

While the other family members were locked in one of the rooms, the suspects took one child to the lounge and pointed a gun at him while they removed televisions from the property.

A HILLARY family survived a traumatising armed robbery when a gang of robbers invaded their home and held them up at gunpoint on Monday night.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios said four armed robbers arrived in a white VW Polo and forced their way into the family’s home just before 8pm.

“The suspects forced open a door and entered the house where they held up the family. They forced the owner, his wife and one child into one of the rooms in the house and kept one child with them. “

Mathios said the robbers  took the child to the lounge and pointed a firearm at him while they removed televisions from the property.

“When the suspects were leaving the premises, another resident arrived at the scene, disturbing them. One of the suspects fired a shot before they fled in their getaway vehicle. No injuries were reported,” said Mathios.

Bellair SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
