The Highway Mail’s Lusanda Luthuli spoke to Ngcobo about his forthcoming trip and how he got this far in his fledgling career.

Q: At what age did you start acting and who inspired you to do so?

A: This all started at the age of five for me, but I became serious about it at the age of eight. I wouldn’t say that anyone in particular inspired me, it’s more of the feeling I got after my first performance.

Q: How was your acting experience in Charley’s Aunt ?

A: Charley’s Aunt was very stressful at times but mainly enjoyable, anytime I can act is an amazing experience for me.

Q: What other experience do you have in acting?

A: I have been apart of the Rising Star Academy and I have been in my fair share of school productions

Q: How did you start working with the agency, Just You Artist?

A: I auditioned for Arts Africa at Curro Hillcrest, in 2018, which ties together with Just You Artist and Model management’

Q: How were you chosen to go to New York?

A: I made it through my first audition in Durban and I was selected to go and perform at the Just You showcase in Johannesburg where I performed for the New York Film Academy and Kim Meyers. I performed successfully and was selected by Kim Meyers to represent South Africa at the International Art Talent showcase.

Q: What will you be doing in the Big Apple?

A: I will be going there to perform and hopefully get call-backs from the New York Film Academy, Disney, Universal and Tyler Perry studios. I’m hoping to go there and achieve my dream

Q: What are you looking forward to the most about this trip?

A: I’m looking forward to the experience and going halfway across the world to showcase my God-given talent internationally.

Q: Why is this a good opportunity for you?

A: This is a good opportunity for me because not a lot of people have gotten an opportunity like this. Some people have been chasing a opening like this their whole career, this just came to me through hard-work and prayer.

Q: How long will you be in New York for?

A: I will be in New York for one week during my school holidays. I leave South Africa on 30 June, and I come back on the 8 July.

Q: What are you doing to prepare for this trip?

A: Preparing myself mentally and anticipating the outcome of this journey, physically performing daily so I don’t slip and constantly working on my craft.

Q: Do you have any advice for young actors (especially in high school) that want to get recognised ?

A: To be hungry, to never settle for less, to hustle and go for auditions like crazy. Steve Jobs once said:”Any rational person can give up”. Because all the work you put in will never be enough if it’s not something you love. You can never not make it in this industry, you can only ever stop trying.

Q: What other skills do you bring to the table, other than good acting?

A: I’d like to think I’m a good dancer and poet.

Q: Who is your favorite actor?

A: Tom Hardy

Q: What are your interests other than acting?

A: To be honest, I don’t have any interest besides acting, I can’t picture myself doing anything else, call it cheesy but it’s my calling.

Q: Who is your celebrity crush?

A: Jordyn Woods

Ndumiso, along with four other Hillcrest High learners, are heading off to Shangai from 17 to 31 July for the 2019 Shangai International Sister Cities Youth Camp.

On this trip, Ndumiso will be able to interact with Chinese teachers and learners, immerse themselves in the Chinese culture and form and globalised insight in an all expenses paid invitation to the city. The Highway Mail wishes Ndumiso all the best for his travels.
