Pinetown Boys’ learner is extra happy on film set

Qiniso has been nominated for the Live Your Dream SA Youth Awards for Best Actor. You can vote for him by sending an SMS LYD994 to 45633, unlimited votes, sms cost R1.50. Voting closes on Friday, 29 November  at Midnight.

PINETOWN Boys’ ray of sunshine, Qiniso Makhoba is the school’s SPAR Star of the Month.

Qiniso was nominated two months ago by his former agent for the popular Netflix film The Kissing Booth 2 as the production was coming down to South Africa from America to shoot the second sequel and they needed local talent to be extras for their scenes and he was selected.

The bubbly Qiniso said the agent sent him a WhatsApp message with his call time and all the details. “I was super excited, the shuttle took us from Elangeni Hotel in Durban to a basecamp in Scottburgh where the wardrobe and make-up crew was.

“We were then taken to all the shooting locations, we had to be there from 3:30pm to 5am the next day (an all night shoot) and it was cold but super enjoyable,” said the happy Qiniso.

He said it was quite an amazing experiment and taking orders from an American accent (the director) sounded so cool and he got to see some of the lead actors such as American actress and actor Joey King as Elle Evans and Joel Courtney as Elle’s BFF.

The next day after shooting, the matric learner had to go to school.

“My academics are just as important as my acting career and somehow I can juggle it both. I cannot emphasise enough to all the people who ask me how I get myself on such projects, it’s simple, ‘Get some acting classes done and join an agency! Today an extra, tomorrow a lead role, we all have to start somewhere’,” said the confident Qiniso.
