Man (29) arrested for friend’s murder, three years later

It is alleged that the suspect was sitting with his two friends in a car when an argument broke out. The one friend died at the scene and the other was transported to the clinic.

PINETOWN detectives arrested a 29-year-old suspect on Saturday for murder and attempted murder.

According to Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, it is alleged that on 2 April 2016 at about 4.20am, the suspect and his two friends were sitting in a vehicle driven by the suspect in Wyebank area.

“It is alleged that an argument broke out between the suspect and the two friends. Suspect pulled out a firearm and shot both victims. One victim (31) sustained one gunshot wound to the chest and he was certified dead on the scene. The other victim was transported to the clinic.”

Manqele said a case of murder and attempted was opened at Pinetown police station for further investigation.

“The suspect fled the area after the incident and with the help of the informant the suspect was subsequently arrested in New Germany by Pinetown detectives,” said Manqele.

The man is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon,
