Pinetown Girls’ awards excellence

Thandeka Mvunelo was named the Dux for 2019.

PINETOWN Girls’ High School held its Grade 12 prize-giving ceremony recently.

The guest speaker was Pearl Biyela, a former learner who is qualified as a lawyer and was the first woman to be elected as the national president of the Black Lawyers’ Association (Student Chapter).

Thandeka Mvunelo was named the Dux for 2019. She received subject prizes for English, geography, life orientation, life sciences and physical sciences, as well as academic honours.

She was also awarded the second prize for mathematics as well as the prize for the top Afrikaans learner.

Thandeka was further honoured with the Booysen prize for bilinguality and the Zenex trophy for the top learner in English, mathematics and physical sciences combined.

Apart from her academic success, Thandeka has been fully committed to sports and cultural activities as well as being a school leader.

In recognition of this, she was presented with the Farina Loonat Trophy for the best all rounder in the spheres of academics, leadership, sports and cultural activities.

Sive Booi, the proxime accessit (runner-up dux) was awarded the subject prizes for accounting and mathematics in addition to academic honours.
