Two die in Richmond Road accident

One passenger escaped the burning vehicle and made his way up to the road to flag down help.

TWO men died and one was injured in an accident on the M1 Richmond Road, near Mariannhill, this morning.

Garrith Jamieson, the managing director of Rescue Care, said a single vehicle was on fire down a bank along the road.

“One person, believed to be a passenger, escaped the flames and climbed up to the road to seek help,” said Jamieson.

Paramedics treated the man while the Durban Fire Department, together with medics, went down to the vehicle to assess the situation. Two men were fatally injured and they were declared deceased at the scene.

“Paramedics stabilised the injured man on the scene, who had moderate injuries,” said Jamieson.
