Man arrested for 2018 Wyebank hijacking

The victim was hired to transport goods with his bakkie when he was hijacked by three men, one of whom was known to him.

ONE of the three men who allegedly hijacked a man of his bakkie in Wyebank in 2018 was arrested yesterday, (Wednesday, 29 January) by Pinetown detectives.

According to Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, it is alleged the 33- year-old victim who had a delivery bakkie received a request to transport goods in Wyebank.

“It is alleged that when he arrived at the address in Wyebank, near the sportsground, he met the men and one of them was known to him. They allegedly grabbed the victim and threatened him with a knife before taking his bakkie keys from him,” said Manqele.

A case of carjacking was opened at Pinetown police station for investigation.

“Yesterday, detectives received intelligence about the whereabouts of one of the suspects and he was arrested. The suspect was also positively identified by the victim,” added Manqele.

The arrested suspect will be charged for carjacking and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Friday, 31 January 2020.
