Report crimes to Hillcrest police

"For us to try to be as effective as possible we urge the community to report their cases timeously and not delay, especially policeable crimes."

REPORT all crime to Hillcrest SAPS as soon as possible as police need the information to identify hot spots.

“Reporting all cases gives us an indication of the areas where we need to focus and increase our patrols. We analyse all the crime trends. By not reporting cases we won’t have the correct analysis of the crimes being committed,” said Hillcrest SAPS’ communications officer, Captain Linzi Smith.

“Hillcrest police have noticed an increase in ‘late reported’ cases. We analyse our reported crime and then focus on targeted areas and place our vehicles to specifically patrol these areas. When crime is reported days or weeks later, this throws out our analysis and instead of focusing on targeted areas when the trend arises, we are patrolling areas where the crimes occurred days to weeks earlier.”

Hillcrest SAPS want to do their jobs as efficiently as possible and need the community to meet them halfway.

“For us to try to be as effective as possible we urge the community to report their cases timeously and not delay, especially policeable crimes,” said Captain Smith.

She asked residents to also make sure their house numbers are clearly visible.

“It is also important to ensure your house is numbered correctly. We experience time delays in responding when houses are not clearly numbered.”

“Report suspicious persons and we can send a vehicle to check them out. If they had any intention of committing an offence, that one call or report could possibly disturb the suspects.”

The Hillcrest SAPS urges the community to work with them.

“Working together and with more vigilant people can make a difference. If you are new to the area, find out who your neighbourhood watch team/s are and join/sign up. You can place posts on the group where we have key players directly linked to a response group,” Captain Smith said.
