Assagay couple locked down in love
Alyn and Maureen Woodley celebrated 50 years of marriage on Saturday, 13 June.
TO celebrate Alyn and Maureen Woodley’s 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, 13 June, friends and family formed a convoy and drove past the loving couple’s Assagay home, hooting their horns and waving.
Alyn met Maureen (nee Lelliott) in 1965, during high school, at a house party and were married five years later at the Boshoff Street Methodist Church in Pietermaritzburg.
Their honeymoon saw them take a cruise to Cape Town.

The couple have since travelled extensively and their highlight was their two-year sailing trip on board their catamaran around the Caribbean and USA from 2010 to 2012.
They have two children, Julie and Gareth, and four grandchildren.

Apart from some time spent in Pietermaritzburg and Swaziland, the Woodleys have lived in the Highway area for 30 years. Alyn ran his own construction business in the area, before he retired in 2009.
Their current hobbies include running a smallholding that forms part of the Madwala Wildlife Sanctuary in Assagay and spending time between the UK and parts of South Africa to visit family.
“The highlight of our anniversary was having our friends do a drive past with balloons and hooting and shouting congratulations. It was a total surprise!” said the couple.
