Pinetown’s Chester and Rosie are the perfect match

The Pinetown Christian Fellowship's senior pastors, Chester and Rosie Rawlins will celebrate 50 years of marriage today, 8 August.

THE love between the happily married couple, Chester and Rosie Rawlins, has only continued to blossom 50 years later.

The duo first met when they were 17 in 1968 at Rosie’s older sister’s wedding.

Two months after that fateful day, they went on their first date – a romantic picnic.

After 18 months, Chester went down on one knee and asked Rosie to be his wife.

They officially tied the knot on 8 August in 1970 at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Pietermaritzburg.

As a couple, they’ve travelled to Brazil, England, the United Arab Emirates and Mauritius.

“We are huge soccer fanatics, so Brazil was our favourite trip, visiting stadiums and seeing the culture of football come alive,” said Rosie.

One of the top items on their Bucket List is to visit the holy land, Israel.

Chester was a painting contractor prior to taking up the role of a pastor and Rosie was a stay-at-home mom.

They are both now senior pastors at the Pinetown Christian Fellowship.

They have five children, Odette, Claudette, Owen, Roxanne and Laverne and nine grandchildren.

Between them, their hobbies include sports, gardening and home decor.

They said they are only too happy that sports is now back on TV as this, and refurbishing their home, are just one of the many things they are currently doing to keep busy during level 3 lockdown.

They had a big celebration for their marriage milestone planned but, due to lockdown, they look forward to enjoying an intimate lunch at home and a Zoom call with their local children and those abroad who could no longer travel due to border restrictions.

“The secret to a successful marriage is the journey of understanding each other, our roles and being able to support each other. Communication is also key. Lastly, being practical and enjoying each other’s company,” said Chester.

They’ve made it a weekly commitment to have a breakfast date every Tuesday to take a timeout to connect with each other.

Claudine Fynn, said, “We, as the family of Pinetown Christian Fellowship, have come to truly value their marriage. They have openly shared their trials, tears and triumphs with us, and that has given so many of us courage and willingness to working on our marriages. You are true role models with genuine hearts. Congratulations on reaching this great milestone.”
