Smith said the man immediately went out and saw his aunt laying on the ground outside.

“He then saw his grandmother being stabbed by a man known to him. The suspect fled into the bush when he saw him,” said Smith.

Members from the Hillcrest Cluster Task team, dog unit and the community searched for the suspect for hours into the night.

“The suspect was eventually found at the bottom of a cliff which he fell off while fleeing.”

The man was arrested and taken for treatment for the injuries he sustained due to the fall.

The grandmother (56) and aunt (42) were both taken to hospital where the aunt passed away upon arrival.

“The grandmother was admitted with serious stab wounds,” said Smith.

A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened and is under investigation.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
