Gang breaks into, robs stores at Rossburgh shopping centre

The group of men reportedly broke into Southway Mall just after 2am on Tuesday, 25 August.

WINDOWS were smashed and at least two stores in Rossburgh’s Southway Mall were broken into in the early hours of Tuesday morning, allegedly by a group of men.

Cheryl White, centre manager for Southway Mall confirmed that none of the onsite security had been harmed. 

“The security guards saw them but there were eight of them, so they didn’t stand a chance against so many,” she said.

Sedick Arendse, Clicks Chief Store Operations Officer confirmed that its store in the mall was broken into.

“We can confirm that a break-in occurred at Clicks Southway Mall on 25 August at 2am. No staff were in the store at the time. Clicks is co-operating fully with SAPS,” said Arendse.

Communications officer for Bellair SAPS Sgt Pam Pillay, was able to confirm that members from the station did attend the scene.

Cpt Nqobile Gwala speaking for the KZN police media centre confirmed that Bellair SAPS is investigating a case of burglary.

“It is alleged that in the early hours of the morning at 01:55, a group of unknown suspects broke onto the business premises on Titen Road. They took cosmetics, perfumes and shaving blades. They fled the scene in their getaway vehicle. The matter is still under investigation,” said Gwala.
