Westville SAPS celebrate women during their month
Policewomen were encouraged to always strive to better themselves and seek support from their colleagues, especially as women.
THE Westville SAPS held a special event on Friday, August 21, to celebrate women officers to commemorate Women’s Day and month.
Held at the Homeground Church in Westville, the event was attended by Westville SAPS management, members of the social prevention crime unit, and the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, as well as the NexGen NPO, members of the community policing forum, Safety Net, Community In Blue and other stakeholders.
The guest speaker, Thando maBhungane Masinga, encouraged attendees to always strive to better themselves and seek support from their colleagues, especially as women.
The communications officer at Westville SAPS, Sergeant Zwelethu Khathi, thanked the sponsors for their donations which made the commemoration a success.
Khathi thanked the Westville North Butchery, Village Market Spar, Dunlop Tyres Westville, Dischem Pavilion, the CPF, the Homeground Church and NexGen-NPO.

“Women officers were applauded for their dedication and the extra effort they all add when performing their duties, and also were encouraged to keep doing great for the community,” said Khathi.
The women officers also received gifts sponsored by the donors.
Mbali Makhathini from the Department of Community Safety and Liaison urged women officers to also come forward whenever they end up being victims of gender-based violence.
“The event was a huge success, leaving members united and all enjoyed the time together as colleagues,” said Khathi.
