Kloof Conservancy roots for green future

The Kloof Conservancy partnered with the eThekwini Parks Department and planted indigenous trees to celebrate Arbor Week.

TO celebrate Arbor Week, the Kloof Conservancy planted three Ekebergia capensis (Cape Ash) trees in Memorial Park as it is the common Tree of the Year for 2020.

The Kloof Conservancy’s Paolo Candotti said the Adansonia digitata (African Baobab) was named as the rare tree of the year for 2020 but was not a suitable tree to plant in the Kloof area.

“To help us celebrate the occasion, we were joined by Mike Haskins and Zeeh Khoso from eThekwini Parks Department, who have been instrumental in providing an upgrade to the park which is currently in progress,” said Candotti.

The upgrade includes new post and rail fencing, improved parking, additional bridges over the streams and a paved pathway.

He noted that Khoso was still waiting for authorisation to fence off the children’s playground area so that small children could play in a secure area without the parents being concerned about the children being knocked down by over-enthusiastic dogs.
