Man falls 20 metres from Piet Retief Road bridge

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was airlifted to hospital.

A MAN who fell from a bridge on Piet Retief Road near Burlington Heights in Queensburgh has been airlifted to hospital.

According to Rowan Scandroglio, spokesperson for Rescue Care Paramedics, the man sustained critical injuries after falling 20 metres from a bridge on Piet Retief Road just after 11am today (Friday, 16 October).

“Rescue Care Paramedics together with Blue Security arrived on the scene to find a male, believed to be in his 20s, in a critical condition after falling 20 metres off a bridge,” said Scandroglio.

 
“Rescue Care Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man on the scene while the Netcare 911 Aero medical helicopter was activated. Once the man was stabilised, he was airlifted to a nearby Durban hospital,”  he added.

Scandroglio said police were on the scene and would be investigating what led to the man’s fall.
