Banger start to 2021 for Kloof and Highway SPCA
Since New Year's Eve, the animal welfare organisation has since taken in 50 animals into its care.
FROM a raging storm that was followed by a myriad of loud bangs from fireworks on New Year’s Eve, the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s staff have worked around the clock to ensure the safety of the animals placed in its care.
Between Thursday, 31 December 2020 to Monday, 4 January, the local animal welfare organisation admitted a total of 50 animals.
This included three dogs, that were hit by cars, two injured monkeys and one suspected rabid dog, which has been sent for testing.
“Sadly, of these 50 animals, 18 were surrendered by their owners and some were even left in our after-hour kennels on the evening of 31 December,” said the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s inspectorate manager, Sue Noakes. “We urge anyone missing a pet to please contact their local SPCAs and complete a lost report, which includes a picture of your missing pet. This is vital in ensuring we are able to match missing pets and their owners.”
She encouraged pet owners to microchip their pets and ensure their vaccinations are up to date.

“We would like to thank any member of the public who stopped to assist an animal or any of our staff during this time,” said Noakes.
For lost animals, contact the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s offices between 8am to 3pm on 031 764 1212. For any after-hour animal emergencies, contact 073 335 9322.
