#MatricResults2020: Star College hailed as the Top Independent School in KZN
The Matric Class of 2020 achieved, in total, 322 distinctions which averaged a 3.22 distinction pass per learner and 100 per cent pass rate.
NOT only did three matric learners from Star College achieve 9 distinctions but the Westville-based school was hailed as the Top Independent School in KZN, and second in South Africa.

The school’s top student, Shaylen Pillay, achieved a 96.14 per cent aggregate pass with Sailen Vadivelu following with 90.63 per cent and Ethan Naidoo with 87 per cent.
Principal of the school, Osman Karaayvaz said they were proud to announce that their matrics crossed all obstacles and hurdles like the true gentlemen and women that they are.
“With the support from our teachers, they managed to overcome the anxiety and stress that the pandemic offered them. We wish to congratulate our Matric Class of 2020 for their outstanding results, parents for their support and our staff for their dedication,” he said.
Karaayvaz said on hearing the President’s release that the country would move into lockdown in March 2020, Star College swiftly moved into offering training workshops for their educators to immediately begin teaching through virtual media.
“The dedication of the staff was phenomenal. Due to this, our students from Grade R to matric were offered a continuous flow of teaching excellence.

“Not only did we offer workshops for our staff, but for our parents as well so that they could fully equip the learners for an easy progression across to online teaching. Once we were able to open, we continued with a hybrid teaching formulae which worked tremendously, offering both online and contact classes,” he said.
Star College which was established in 2002 with a mere 20 learners and offers a hybrid learning formulae.
